Do you have reason to believe that poor circulation is taking a toll on your health? If so, you definitely want to consult with a doctor. However, this doesn’t mean you should begin to take as much medication as you can get your hands on.

Instead, there are several natural ways to improve blood flow. Best yet, you don’t have to turn your life upside down to reap the benefits. Check out these ideas:

1. Get moving in the morning. It’s easy to make excuses for lounging around during the morning hours. However, if you get into this habit, it can soon have a negative impact on your blood flow.

A little bit of exercise in the morning can go a long way.

2. Get a massage. Not only does this feel good, but there are many health benefits. This includes increased blood flow.

If you can’t remember the last time you received a professional massage, you’re missing out on something that could do wonders for your health.

3. Leave stimulants in the past. From coffee to energy drinks, stimulants are part of daily life for many people. Unfortunately, this can have a negative impact on your body.

Poor circulation can be the result of stimulant abuse, so make sure you keep your intake in check.

If you want to improve blood flow, you may not need to take medication or change your life drastically. Instead, a few minor adjustments may be all you need.

There’s something about lower back pain that can put you on the shelf for weeks on end. Not only can this impact your personal life, but it may keep you away from work as well.

Fortunately, you don’t have to live with this pain and discomfort. Instead, you can implement a few treatment strategies that have been proven successful.

Best yet, you don’t have to visit a doctor in order to treat the pain. Instead, you can take the first steps from the comfort of your home.

1. Start with ice, move onto heat. For the first 48 hours following your injury, put ice on the injured area a minimum of three times per day.

From there, you can use moist heat in an attempt to reduce spasms and increase blood flow. Once again, this can be repeated three times per day.

2. Stretch in the morning. After a long night’s rest your back is sure to be sore. While you may believe this will remain a problem throughout the day, a few minutes of stretching can do wonders.

3. Get a massage. In addition to gently massaging the area with your own two hands, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment with a professional. When you combine this with the tips above, you may be surprised at how quickly you can put your pain in the past.

Final note: if you have reason to believe that your lower back pain is being caused by a serious injury, don’t wait to seek medical assistance.

With summer coming to an end soon enough, it won’t be long before cooler weather enters the area. As this happens, you know just how difficult it will be to remain 100 percent healthy.

If you’re bogged down with a cough, don’t run for your local doctor. Instead, try one of these natural remedies. You may be surprised at how quickly you find relief:

1. Spoonful of Honey

In short, honey helps coat the throat and soothe irritated mucous membranes. Add in antibacterial properties and there’s no wondering why this has long been a favorite home remedy.

2. Salt Water

Just the same as honey, salt water has a long history of success in treating a cough and sore throat.

All you need to do is mix a teaspoon of salt with a cup of hot water. From there, gargle twice a day and wait for the magic to happen.

Note: you may find that gargling with salt water also helps loosen any phlegm that’s been caught in your throat and causing you trouble.

3. Steam!

If you’re suffering from a cough and/or congestion, steam can do wonders. Not only does it loosen phlegm in your chest and throat, but the use of essential oils can provide a variety of anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits.

Get started with a bowl of water, a few drops of tea tree oil, and a single drop of eucalyptus oil. From there, heat the water and breathe in the steam. It really is that simple!

If you’ve never tried these natural cough remedies in the past, there’s a good chance you’ll have the opportunity to do so this fall or winter.

Are you suffering with acne? Are you tired of your dermatologist pushing you towards potentially dangerous medications that have no real impact on your skin?

If you find yourself in this position, now’s not the time to give up. There are many natural acne remedies to consider, all of which have the chance of impacting your skin in a positive manner.

Here are a few to consider:

1. Apple cider vinegar. Known as one of the top natural remedies, it has a way of killing bacteria that could be causing your breakouts. Furthermore, it acts as an astringent, meaning it can help dry excess oil.

Getting started is as simple as mixing one part pure unfiltered apple cider vinegar with three parts water. From there, apply directly to your acne once per day.

2. Cinnamon and honey. This may sound sticky. It may even sound like a big mess waiting to happen. But remember this: what matters most is that you clear up your skin.

There are two reasons why a cinnamon and honey mask produces results:

·      Cinnamon has a variety of antimicrobial properties, which can help keep bacteria in check.

·      Honey is a natural antibiotic.

When you combine the two, you end up with a natural remedy that has been proven effective in the past.

3. Egg whites. Forget about using all your egg whites for breakfast. This food is a great way to not only reduce acne breakouts, but to also get rid of any scars that have been left behind.

Egg whites are full of vitamins and proteins, both of which can help fight acne and rebuild skin cells. Additionally, much the same as apple cider vinegar, it rids the skin of excess oil.

Along with the above, don’t overlook the benefits of a natural skin care facial. This is yet another way to improve the clarity of your complexion.

We’re still smack dab in the middle of summer, but that doesn’t mean the warm weather will last forever. There is no better time than now to think about the months to come, which means cooler temperatures among many other things.

Even if you enjoy the cool weather, your body will still be faced with an adjustment period. Here are a few things you can do to get your body ready for the cooler temperatures that are sure to arrive over the next couple months:

1. Remain hydrated. This is something that most people do during the summer months, as they realize they are losing a lot of water in the heat. But did you know this is extremely important as the weather turns cold? Winter can also dehydrate your body, thanks in large part to lower humidity. Be sure to drink enough water every day!

2. Stay active. It may be tempting to huddle up indoors for several months, but this isn’t going to do much good for your body. Even if it’s cold outside, it’s important to remain active.

3. Be mindful of your mental state. Believe it or not, cold weather can increase the likelihood of depression and similar disorders. When it’s cold and dark outdoors, it’s important to pay close attention to your mental state. Seasonal affective disorders are no joke!

With these three basic tips, you will find it much easier to prepare your body and mind for cooler weather. You know it’s coming, so you might as well prepare today.

Can you believe it’s already back to school time? Although summer is almost over, you have a lot to look forward to. The same holds true for your children, who are sure (hopefully) to be excited about the upcoming school year.

As a parent, there are a few back to school health tips you need to implement. These include but are not limited to:

·      Teach your children to wash their hands often. This is one of the best ways to keep colds, the flu, and other viruses on the outside looking in.

·      Focus on nutrition. Just because school is back in session doesn’t mean your child should start eating poorly. Sure, their schedule will be busy, but don’t let this be an excuse for slacking off in this area.

Along with the above, here’s one last thing to remember: allergens have a way of thriving in a classroom setting. If your child suffers from allergies, make sure you prepare for this in advance.

With these tips guiding you, back to school time will not be nearly as daunting this year. Instead, you can send your child back to the classroom knowing that he or she will be happy and healthy!

Foot pain can be extremely uncomfortable, especially if you’re the type who’s always up and moving.

If this creeps into your life, it’s essential to pinpoint the cause to ensure that you implement the right treatment strategy.

Generally speaking, there are three primary causes of foot pain:

·      Injury

·      Overuse

·      Health condition

Of course, as you break each one down, you’ll find that there are many ailments that fit into each category.

For example, an injury could include something as serious as a broken bone. If left untreated, you could be faced with pain and discomfort well into the future.

What can you do?

If you’re suffering from foot pain that won’t go away, now’s the time to take action.

Not only should you chart the type of pain you are experiencing, but you must also seek medical treatment without delay. This is the only way to truly understand what’s happening and how to put it in the past once and for all.

The type of treatment you receive will depend largely on the injury. For example, a strained muscle could be treated with massage while arthritis requires an entirely different strategy.

Foot pain is a common concern, but you shouldn’t let it linger. Instead, seek treatment and a solution as soon as possible. This will allow you to reclaim control of your life!

Back pain has a way of coming on when you least expect if. For example, you’re feeling perfectly fine, just to tweak something as you work in the yard. Soon enough, you’re unable to do anything without lingering pain that continues to slow you down.

If you are suffering from back pain, it’s essential to pinpoint the problem as soon as possible. Some of the most common conditions causing this ailment include:

·      Muscle strain. This can be the result of things such as heavy lifting, awkward movements, and intense exercise.

·      Bulging disk. When the soft material inside a disk bulges, it can press on a nerve, which causes back pain.

·      Arthritis. Many people are unaware of the fact that osteoarthritis can impact the back just like the rest of the body.

·      Osteoporosis. In the event that your bones become brittle, you may be diagnosed with osteoporosis. Without treatment, this can cause back pain while also increasing the risk of fracture.

These are just a few of the most common causes of back pain. If you are suffering from this ailment, the first step is to find out the cause. From there, you can learn more about your treatment options.

For example, a muscle strain can be treated with massage. Osteoporosis, on the other hand, may require medication to slow the progression of the disease.

All in all, back pain is nothing to take lightly. If this is affecting your life, don’t wait to get treatment.

In the past, we have discussed some of the more common swimming injuries. This time around, however, we’re going to talk about something a bit different. We’re going to focus on the steps you can take to prevent these injuries in the first place.

If you prevent injury you never have to deal with the treatment process. So, as you can imagine, this is the best strategy.

Here are a few things you can do:

1. Use proper form at all times. It doesn’t matter if you are swimming competitively or for fun, proper form can go a long way in keeping you safe and healthy both during and after this activity.

2. Don’t overexert yourself. Even if you are having tons of fun in the pool, there’s nothing wrong with taking a break from time to time. Doing so gives your body a chance to recover, thus lessening the likelihood of an accident.

3. Don’t strain a body part that is already injured. For example, maybe you are overcoming a shoulder injury. Don’t jump in the pool too quickly, as doing so could put you right back at square one.

There is no denying the fact that swimming is one of the most exciting summer activities you can take part in. Just make sure you do everything possible to remain safe.

If you do suffer an injury, don’t hesitate to get treatment. For instance, a massage may bring you the relief you are seeking.

Not only can the wrong mattress cause back pain, but it can also worsen any injury you are nursing back to health.

A mattress that lacks support will lead to a variety of issues, such as:

·      Muscle strains

·      Poor sleeping posture

·      Inability to keep the spine in alignment.

When you add all these together, it won’t be long before back pain is setting in.

Fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to make things better. Here are several tips for choosing the best mattress for back pain:

·      Personal preference. All in all, you need to choose the mattress type that is best for you. Just because your pain is cured with a particular type of mattress doesn’t mean the next person will feel the same way.

·      Understand what you are getting. What type of padding does the mattress have? How many coils are there? What is the mattress depth? These are all questions to answer as you continue your search.

·      Search for a mattress with back support. The best way of doing so is to visit a mattress store and test out several options. This will give you a clear idea as to which one provides the support you’re looking for.

Tip: do your best to find a mattress that balances the appropriate level of support with a high level of comfort.

With all this in mind, what do you think about your current mattress? Is it time for a change?

When the temperatures rise, it only makes sense to seek cool air. For most, this means a home or any other building with air conditioning.

But what if you don’t have AC in your home? How will you remain cool?

This may not sound like a big deal, but extreme heat in your home can lead to many health related concerns. These include:

·      Dehydration

·      Heat rash

·      Lack of sleep

While there is no replacement for AC, there are a few things you can do to stay cool nonetheless. Try the following:

1. Keep your blinds closed. This goes a long way in keeping the sun out, thus allowing your interior to remain cool.

2. Leave interior doors open. When you close off a room, the air becomes stale and the temperature rises. Do your best to promote natural airflow throughout your home.

3. Use ceiling fans. The air may not be as cool as you would like, but the breeze is sure to give you the relief you are seeking.

4. Focus on your body temperature. From a cold shower to a cold drink, there are many things you can do to lower your body temperature to combat the heat in your home.

5. Crack the windows at night. In most areas, temperatures drop after the sun goes down. For this reason, you can cool your home by letting in the night air. Just remember to close them before the heat picks back up in the morning.

Do you have any other tips for staying cool without AC during the hot summer months? Share your advice in the comment section.

Do your feet ache when you wake up in the morning? How about before you go to bed? What about during the day?

It doesn’t matter when you experience aching feet, nothing changes the fact that this can be uncomfortable.

Fortunately, there are many ways to treat this common problem. Here are three ideas to consider:

1. Apply an ice pack to the area that hurts the most. It doesn’t matter if it’s your heel, arch, or another part of your foot, an ice pack can do wonders. It only takes 20 minutes to get some relief.

2. Add essential oils to a warm bowl of water, and then soak. For example, a couple drops of peppermint oil can go a long way in transforming the way your feet feel. A 10 to 15 minute soak is all it takes to feel the benefits.

3. Get a massage. Imagine how good it would feel for your feet to be massaged when they are aching. Add in other parts of your body and you’re sure to find yourself running for a local spa.

As you can see, you don’t have to immediately run for the medicine cabinet when your feet are aching. Instead, you can experiment with one or more of these ideas to find the relief you are dreaming of.

Did you work in the yard for too many hours this past weekend? Did you take your gym workout to the next level? If so, you know that waking up stiff is a possibility. You also know that this can slow you down if not treated in the appropriate manner.

Fortunately, there are many ways to treat stiffness. Here are five of the best:

1. Stretching. Before you do anything else in the morning, take part in a full body stretch. This can help you start your day on the right foot.

2. Gentle movement. You may feel like doing nothing more than laying in bed, but gentle movement can actually help you regain your flexibility.

3. Soaking. Are you stiff as the result of joint pain or sore muscles? If so, taking a warm soak can relax muscles and loosen up joints. It only takes 10 minutes to feel the impact.

4. Massage. With so many benefits of massage, it’s something to consider if you are stiff. In addition to reducing inflammation and ridding your body of stiffness, it can put your mind in a calm place.

5. Foam rolling. This may not make you feel better right away, but over time it can work in your favor. In short, foam rolling loosens your body by increasing blood flow and working out muscle knots.

If you want to treat stiffness, you don’t have to turn to modern medicine. Instead, one or more of these strategies should be enough to make you feel better.

Cuts and scrapes are common during the summer months. It doesn’t matter if you are an adult working in the yard or a child hitting the street on your bike, there is always the chance of a cut or scrape.

Fortunately, you don’t have to run to the drug store to purchase a treatment that could cause more harm than good. Instead, there are several natural treatments for cuts and scrapes. Here are three to consider:

1. Honey

As a treatment for many ailments, honey has been used to heal cuts for thousands of years. According to scientists, the antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins allow the honey to kill bacteria that infects wounds. Furthermore, it allows the cut to heal in a moist environment, thus lessening the likelihood of a scar.

2. Tea Tree Oil

Yes, this is the same ingredient that is often used in shampoo. And yes, it has many benefits when it comes to treating cuts and scrapes.

Thanks to its antibacterial qualities, the use of tea tree oil can speed up the healing process while preventing excess inflammation.

3. Lavender Oil

There are many reasons to use lavender oil on cuts and scrapes, including the fact that it prevents infection. Along with this, it results in less pain, redness, and swelling during the healing process.

If you cut or scrape your skin this summer, it’s time to pull out the honey, tea tree oil, or lavender oil. One of these could be just what you need in order to quickly and safely treat your injury.

No matter how much you try to prevent sunburn this summer, you never know what will happen. Maybe you forget to apply sunscreen. Or maybe you forget to reapply as you spend a long day at the beach.

If you find yourself with serious sunburn, you are sure to be dealing with a variety of symptoms, all of which can be extremely uncomfortable.

Fortunately, there are many natural cures for sunburn that can have you feeling much better in no time at all:

·      Cold water compresses. By doing this a few times per day, 10 minutes at a time, you can get much needed relief from sunburn.

·      Apply oatmeal. This starts with wrapping dry oatmeal in gauze and running water over it. From there, discard the remaining oatmeal and apply the gauze to the skin.

·      Cornstarch. Add enough water to make a paste, apply directly to the sunburnt skin, and wait for the relief to kick in.

·      Yogurt. It tastes good and it is also a great way to heal sunburn. Apply yogurt to your skin, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then get a cool shower.

·      Avoid soap. Soap has a way of making sunburn worse, as it can dry out the skin. The best alternative is a cool bath.

In a perfect world, you’ll avoid sunburn all summer long. However, you know that this could sneak up on you at some point. If it does, don’t hesitate to experiment with one of these natural treatments.

With allergy season closing in (many people are already suffering), it’s time to plan your strategy for the months to come.

While many people believe the only effective treatment is medication, others have found that natural remedies work best. Not only can they bring the most relief, but they don’t come with all the nasty side effects.

Here are several natural allergy remedies to experiment with this spring, summer, and fall:

1. Neti pot. It can be a bit scary to pour something into your nose, but many people swear by the effectiveness of this remedy. In short, this is nothing more than using a saline solution to clear your sinuses of irritants and allergens.

2. Apple cider vinegar. One of the oldest home remedies for allergies, it is meant to reduce mucous and cleanse the lymphatic system.

If you plan on using apple cider vinegar to treat allergies, be sure to get on a regular schedule. For example, drinking this three times per day during allergy season can relieve symptoms while helping reduce the chance of an attack.

3. Quercetin. As a natural bioflavonoid, Quercetin has the ability to prevent mast cells from releasing histamine. Along with this, it works as an antioxidant, helping to reduce inflammation often associated with allergies.

Don’t let allergies stop you from enjoying your summer. There are many health concerns that pop up when the weather gets warm. Fortunately, there are remedies for each and every one. You simply need to find the solution that works best for you!

As the weather heats up, it goes without saying you will probably spend more time outdoors. While this may be exciting on many fronts, it can also lead to a variety of health concerns.

What will you do this summer to protect your eyes? Many people focus so much time on shading their skin from the sun that they overlook protection for their eyes. Fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to make all the right decisions in the months to come:

1. Wear UV-blocking sunglasses. This one step is the best thing you can do to protect your eyes from the sun’s strong rays.

2. Wear a hat. It may not provide as much protection as sunglasses, but it can definitely help keep the sun out of your eyes.

3. The clouds aren’t your friend. Even though the sun may be hiding behind the clouds, it doesn’t mean that its rays are gone for the day. The sun’s rays have the power to pass through thin clouds, thus damaging your eyes and skin.

4. Don’t stare directly into the sun. Did you know that looking directly at the sun can lead to solar retinopathy? Don’t make it a habit of doing this.

With these tips on your side, you can enjoy the outdoors this summer without any concern regarding the safety of your eyes.

What other steps do you take to protect your eyes from the sun?

Many people associate dry skin with the winter months, hoping that this disappears once warmer weather arrives.

Unfortunately, the summer heat can cause just as many problems for your skin.

Here are five of the top reasons for dry skin in the summer months:

1. Lack of Water

It’s imperative to drink enough water during the summer, as neglecting to do so can have a negative impact on your skin as well as many other parts of your body.

2. Air Conditioning

There is no denying the fact that an air conditioned room feels good when it’s hot outside, but it can also dry out the skin.

3. Clogged Pores

Do you work outside all day long? Do you spend a lot of time in the sun after work? If so, you probably sweat quite a bit. When this happens, clogged pores can become a major problem. Subsequently, skin dryness sets in.

4. Over Exfoliation

While it may be a good idea to exfoliate your skin during the summer, overdoing it can lead to dryness. Do yourself a favor and don’t do this too often. It could come back to harm you.

5. Too Many Hot Showers

A hot shower may do you a lot of good in the winter, but it’s time to change your approach during the summer months. This can cause dehydration, thus drying out the skin.

If you suffer from dry skin during the summer, a natural skin care product or service may be all you need. Have you given this a thought?
